Power At Work's Labor Oscars and Labor Grammys aim to celebrate and promote movies and music, respectively, that give us a window into worker power, unions, collective bargaining, and workers coming together to improve their lives and communities. These two Power At Work "awards" are our way of celebrating art that celebrates workers and worker power in popular media.
During awards season (usually January through March), Power At Work publishes our curated and categorized lists of worker power movies and worker power songs from the previous years including new releases. Then, we publish separate lists of movies and songs nominated in each of several categories by our expert Nominating Committees. These nominated movies and songs become the candidates for the Labor Oscars' "The Worker" and the Labor Grammys' "The Woody" (a nod to the great Woody Guthrie). To determine the winners in each category of the Labor Oscars and the Labor Grammys, Power At Work's subscribers vote on the nominated lists of movies and songs. And finally, we announce the winners during our separate Labor Oscars and Labor Grammys awards ceremonies.
